Finally arrived!

I finally arrived at our 18th floor apartment this morning around 2am after a nerve wracking taxi ride down the mountain from the airport into the valley that is Medellin. There were no seatbelts in the back, which was ok, until the taxi driver sped up dramatically and buckled his own seat belt. We were flying down the mountain like a scene from Initial D, utilizing all lanes on the road... Flying past busses, even cops on motorbikes. It was an immediate reminder that I wasn't in Kansas anymore. After half an hour taxi ride, I finally arrived and walked into this:

Upon arriving, I found out Bill never got any of my messages and wasn't able to get onto the internet, and basically had no idea wtf happened to me or where I was. Lol. He finally discovered the phone here was MagicJack and tied to a US system so he was able to contact Julie and get the scoop. Poor Bill.

Tired and completely exhausted, we did the only sane thing, got changed and hit the town.

Medellin is wild at night, especially here in the Parque Lleras area. People partying everywhere. Nonstop. Most of the nightlife is centered around the Park. We decided to do as the locals do, grab a cold bottle of Aguardiente, a few plastic shot glasses, and post up in the park and drink with the locals. Pop-up bands, hippie backpackers, hookers, trannies, tourists, locals, and cops that seemed completely indifferent to anything that was going on and trust me, there was a lot going on. Upon sitting in the park we were offered Colombia's most notorious cash crop no less than 5 times in the span of ten minutes. I couldn't believe it. Being as how Bill and I both came from upstanding households and attended Christian schools our entire lives, we respectfully declined, obviously.

At about 5am the cops finally swept through a bit and kindly requested people go home, and they did, for the most part without incident. Well except for the naked guy who was jerking off in the middle of the street and jumping the windshields of oncoming taxi cabs while people looked on as if were normal.

We decided to call it a night and retire to our abode for a quick nap and have been exploring (read: drinking and eating all day). I wonder what tonight will bring?

Here's some pics of our insane crib.
